The German defense company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft, FFG, has announced its intention to build a new plant for the maintenance, repair and production of armored vehicles.
It is to be created in FFG’s hometown of Flensburg, which is on the border with Denmark and will be the company’s third production site in this city.
It should be noted that FFG is not only a supplier of WiSENT 2 engineering vehicles and Leopard 1A5 tanks, which are actively used by Ukraine. But this company is also engaged in the repair and maintenance of military equipment for the Bundeswehr and has quite realistic plans to become a defense giant.
The fact is that a new armored personnel carrier for the German Armed Forces, and we are obviously talking about the Finnish Patria, has teamed up with FFG to produce armored personnel carriers for the Bundeswehr to replace Fuchs. In addition, this company also produces the ACSV G5 chassis for the new air defense system from the Norwegian Kongsberg – NOMADS.
And to fulfill these and other orders, FFG is building a new production facility. It is stated that the work will go in several stages, but according to the plan, it will have an area of 100,000 m². The total cost of the project is 75 million euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026 and begin production in 2027.
It is worth adding that, as it became known at the beginning of 2024, FFG was creating an armored vehicle repair center in Ukraine. It was stated that we are talking about maintaining the combat capability of Wisent 1, 2A1 Dachs, Leopard 1A5 engineering vehicles and IRIS-T SLS launchers.
