Israel has launched their ground operation in the Gaza Strip. This will be one of the most deadly and complicated military operations in the past 70 years. The area is densely populated, more that 2 million civilians live above dozens of kilometers of underground tunnel networks used by the Hamas to smuggle. There are mines and traps in every corner. There are 200 hostages that need to be brought back alive.
The Hamas has been preparing for this moment for many years – with help from Russia and Iran of course. Iran has even threatened to intervene, should the IDF invade.
But Israel also has tricks up its sleeve, of course, since they have one of the most modern armies in the world. But one of their best weapon is not high-tec. Its a simple method developed after suffering heavy losses in street battles during the last palestinian uprising, or “intifada” in the early 2000s. To avoid battling in the open streets, Israeli soldiers blow holes in to buildings, and travel through the combat zone from building to building, from living room to living room.
