Moscow continues to work to resolve the most acute contradictions between Armenia and Russia, as well as to conclude a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov said at a briefing for foreign military attaches.
Gerasimov noted that Russia is carrying out targeted work on the political track to unblock transport communications in the South Caucasus, conclude a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan, as well as resolve the most acute Armenian-Azerbaijani contradictions.
“The situation in the South Caucasus remains tense, but has a steady tendency towards stabilization,” Gerasimov said.
He noted that the Russian military contingent continues to carry out tasks in Karabakh.
Valery Gerasimov said that the actions of the North Atlantic Alliance negatively affect the situation in Europe, there are risks of increased confrontation.
“The European continent has become an arena of confrontation between the West and the Russian Federation in the political and economic spheres. The accelerated integration of Sweden and Finland into the alliance, the increase in the military presence of NATO troops in Eastern Europe, the Baltic and Black Sea regions, as well as in the Arctic, have a negative impact on the situation in Europe with prospects for increased confrontation,” Gerasimov said.
At the same time, he noted that “the high intensity of operational and combat training activities carried out by NATO Allied Forces remains high.”
