The Kremlin’s signals of readiness for negotiations are manipulative. Any ceasefire on the front line in Ukraine will benefit Russia. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts said that Russia continues to consider demands for Ukrainian “neutrality” and a moratorium on NATO expansion as the main justifications for invading Ukraine. The Russian dictator will not back down from these ideas now.
Demands for Ukraine’s “neutral status” are the goal of Putin’s decades-long effort to influence NATO. These changes would weaken the Alliance so that it would not be able to deter or defeat future Russian aggression in Eastern Europe.
As analysts note, the Russian dictator is unlikely to make concessions unless he suffers a decisive defeat.
The ISW report emphasizes that Russian public figures may feign interest in concessions regarding Ukraine’s place in Western institutions. They are doing this in order to encourage the West to make preemptive concessions regarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Reports of Putin’s alleged willingness to negotiate do not refer to Russia’s willingness to relinquish any occupied Ukrainian territory.
Russia does not hide that their goal is the annexation of occupied Ukrainian territories or additional territorial gains in Ukraine.
“ISW continues to believe that any ceasefire would benefit Russia by giving it time to recover and regroup for future offensive campaigns with the same maximalist goals and further territorial grabs in Ukraine.” – the message says.
Previously, “Military courier” wrote that the main goal of Russian troops in Ukraine remains the capture of the city of Avdiyivka in Donetsk region. The invaders are attacking from three directions to surround the settlement from the south, north and east.
