During his visit to Ukraine, Czech President Petr Pavel visited one of the Ukrainian enterprises, at the facilities of which, under the license of the Czech company Česká Zbrojovka, the assembly of CZ BREN 2 assault rifles was established, the Minister of Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin published a corresponding post on his social networks.
He emphasized that Petr Pavel got acquainted with the different stages of assembling a Czech rifle, and he was also shown the first CZ BREN 2 assault rifles assembled in Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian defense industry has great capabilities, and we are ready to expand cooperation up to the full localization of the production of rifles in Ukraine, including its components,” Smetanin notes.
According to him, during the meeting with the Czech side, a number of documents were signed, in particular, the supply of components for the localized production of small arms, as well as the subsequent assembly of CZ BREN 2 assault rifles.
Recall that for the first time, the Czech Defense Ministry announced the start of negotiations on the production of the CZ BREN 2 assault rifle in Ukraine (localized name –
“Sich” back in 2023, at the same time we talked in detail about what kind of assault rifle it is), and in general, then it was also about deeper cooperation, in particular on the creation of a production line for small caliber cartridges Sellier & Bellot.
And at the beginning of 2024, it became known that JSC “Ukrainian Defense Industry” and the Czech company Česká zbrojovka a.s. officially signed an agreement on the licensed production of the CZ BREN 2 assault rifle in Ukraine.
At the same time, a few months ago, in December 2024, Ukroboronprom reported that the licensed assembly of BREN-2 assault rifles had started in November.
