Czechia Will Build Ammunition Factory in Ukraine, Start Production of CZ BREN 2 Rifles
Ukraine actively cooperates with the Czech Republic in arms production. The Czech Republic can help to solve Ukraine’s need for assault rifles and create its own production of ammunition for small arms.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that work in this area is in progress during the briefing following his meeting with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala.
In particular, it was confirmed that new ammunition factory will be built in Ukraine. This was the result of cooperation between the Czech Sellier & Bellot manufacturer that is part of the Colt CZ Group, and Ukroboronservice state-owned company.
An agreement on the production of assault rifles by Česká zbrojovka manufacturer was also confirmed.
It should be noted that Ukroboronprom state-owned enterprise announced the signing of the agreement of intent to produce the CZ BREN 2 assault rifles (also known as CZ BREN 806) with Česká zbrojovka in February 2024.
These initiatives were first publicly mentioned in September 2023 for the first time. At that time, the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic took the initiative to start production of the CZ BREN 2 in Ukraine under the localized name Sich, launch the production of ammunition by Sellier & Bellot, and cooperate in the production of infantry fighting vehicle, other armored vehicles, as well as chassis of Tatra logistics vehicle.
According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, the initiatives on small arms and ammunition are at the implementation stage. At the same time, it should be noted that in the current environment there is no need to make announcements about the start of such enterprises when every piece of Ukraine’s land is under the sights of long-range missile attacks.
It should also be noted that the launch of production does not take place in a short time. In particular, the opening of the first repair and production site of the joint venture between Rheinmetall and Ukroboronprom was officially announced only in June, while Rheinmetall officially announced its appearance in Ukraine in May 2023.
