The flight commander, Major Viktor Klimov, died in the downed Russian Il-22 plane over the Sea of Azov. This became known from the obituaries that appeared on social networks.
The authors of the posts claim that Klimov “died heroically while performing his military duty.”
Il-22 commander received shrapnel wounds. He died while the plane was in the air. The co-pilot, who was also injured, had to land the plane.
It is known that the liquidated pilot Viktor Klimov was a senior test pilot of military unit 27237. His father, Ivan Klimov, was a navigator in a squadron in Tykhoretsk.
“We bury our children. His father, Vanya Klimov, is from our class,” Russian test pilot Oleksandr Garnaev wrote.
We will remind, on January 14, soldiers of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed an enemy long-range radar detection A-50 aircraft and damaged an Il-22 enemy air control post.
Russian military observers recognized the loss of the A-50 aircraft with the serial number RF-50601 “Krasny” and the damage to the Il-22M11. Information about this began to be spread by the so-called Russian soldiers.
Subsequently, the Russians began search operations in the Sea of Azov in order to find the remains of the downed plane.
