Romanian Government Agrees to Transfer the Patriot SAM System to Ukraine, the Last Step Remains
Romania’s coalition government approved a draft law allowing the transfer of the Patriot surface-to-air system to Ukraine and sent it to parliament for a final vote.

“After parliament approves the law, the government will be able to issue the decision that makes the donation operational,” Romanian government spokesman Mihai Constantin said after the Romanian government approved a bill allowing the donation of a Patriot air defense system to Ukraine and sent the document to the parliament for a final vote on Monday, September 2.
In June, 2024, Bucharest said it would transfer one of the two active Patriot systems to Ukraine on the condition that the allies replace it with a similar air defense system. This air defense system is one of five that NATO countries have promised to transfer to Kyiv in recent months.
As War Ukraine-Russia News Hub reported, late August, the Romanian Ministry of Defense had submitted a bill to the country’s Parliament proposing the transfer of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine.
Romania shares a 650-km border with Ukraine and has had russian drone fragments stray into its territory repeatedly as Moscow attacks Ukrainian ports just across the Danube River border.
