russians Say They Created FPV Drone Carrier with Machine Vision Called Burya-20

russian LLC SPC BERKUT, based in the Republic of Buryatia, has created a new unmanned aerial vehicle called Burya-20. It is designed to launch FPV drones. A representative of the company told russian propaganda media about the development.

It is stated that the drone has already been tested and now small-scale production has started for further testing. The development is funded by the Buryatia’s government.

This development is a kind of mothership for FPV drones. At the same time, it is not disclosed how many units can be “on board”. The idea is that the camera of the mothership uses machine vision to detect the target and transmit the information to the operator, who makes the decision to attack.

Then the FPV drone can “capture” the target and attack it after being launched from the mothership. It is claimed that the FPV drone can operate as a barrage munition, if it is dropped from a considerable height. At the same time, the FPV drone can move away from the mothership at a distance of 15 km.

It is noted that the communication range of Burya-20can reach 70 km from the ground control center. Takeoff weight is 50 kg, payload weight is 15 kg, flight altitude is 3000 m, while the main camera can operate effectively from 2000 m.

The use of machine vision is nothing new, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine have this technology in their inventory and use it directly on the battlefield. Thanks to it, FVP drones can operate in the face of enemy electronic warfare.

Mothership is not a new development either. For instance, in May, we reported that a mothership with classified functionality had been created for Ukrainian FPV drones, which will be tested by the Magyar’s Birds unit of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

Earlier War Ukraine-Russia News Hub reported that Ukraine’s FPV drone had intercepted russian Lancet loitering munition.
