Piece by Piece, russians Bring Up Sunken Ship Destroyed by Ukrainian Cruise Missiles

Photos from Feodosiia port, Crimea, published by the Crimeanwind Telegram channel, show that russia is trying to raise the Novocherkassk landing ship from sea bottom.

The vessel got hit by cruise missiles that the Ukrainian Air Force launched on December 26th, 2023. The damage was enough to make the landing ship sink eventually.

Back in the day, russian Ministry of Defense denied the scale of damage to Novocherkassk, and the media insisted it could be repaired. As for the real state of affairs, the condition of the warship is evident with the ongoing works in the port — as Crimeanwind writes, the vessel is being “brought up piece by piece,” — as well as satellite imagery that appeared soon after the Ukrainian strike.

As a reminder, the russian authorities earlier in January made a series of statements regarding the Rostov na Donu submarine and Minsk landing ship, both severely damaged as a result of Ukrainian strikes on September 13th, 2023. Repair of the Minsk landing craft will commence this year, as announced without a specified date. There are the same doubts about the possibility of restoring the ship from the damage caused by Ukrainian cruise missiles.

The Rostov na Donu submarine was reported to be already at the Sevastopol Shipyard where it is expected to stay by the end of Q2 2024. Earlier, War Ukraine-Russia News Hub analyzed what russian sources called “minor damage” to the submarine.
