Syrskyi Advocates For Ukraine to Acquire A-10 Attack Aircraft
Ukraine needs more military aircraft to conduct combat operations, such as US A-10 attack aircraft to support infantry and aircraft capable of launching long-range cruise missiles.
This was stated in an interview with Reuters by the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi.
“I would talk about the A-10 as one of the options if they were given to us … It’s not a new machine, but it’s a reliable machine that has proven itself in many wars, has a wide range of weapons to destroy ground targets in support of infantry,” he said .
According to Syrsky, the A-10s will provide critical support to ground forces attempting to seize the initiative. “It is designed to destroy ground targets: tanks, artillery… everything that opposes infantry,” the commander noted.
Syrsky added that attack helicopters such as the AH-64 Apache and AH-1 Super Cobra, as well as the UH-60 Black Hawk, could also play an important role.
In addition to calls for an increase in the number of aircraft, Ukraine has asked its allies to speed up the supply of artillery ammunition, the lack of which some units complain.
It was previously reported that the first six Ukrainian pilots have already passed basic training in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain and are currently learning to fly F-16 fighters in Denmark.
At the end of December, the Dutch government decided to prepare the first 18 F-16 fighters for transfer to Ukraine.
