Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced in the Sejm that intensive work is underway to prepare large-scale military training for all adult men in Poland, and their model will be developed by the end of this year.

“It is an illusion that the Russians and Americans are waiting with open arms for Europe in one form or another to sit at the negotiating table,” stressed the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, referring to the growing geopolitical threats.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk also drew attention to the need for greater independence of Europe in the field of defense, stating that “500 million Europeans are begging 300 million Americans to protect us from 140 million Russians, who have not been able to cope with 40 million Ukrainians for 3 years. There is no reason, objectively, for Europe as a whole to have any complexes about Russia when it comes to real potential.”

Return to the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions

During his speech in the Sejm, the Prime Minister proposed Polish’s withdrawal from the Ottawa Treaty and “perhaps from the Dublin Convention” and a return to the use of anti-personnel mines as an element of the country’s defense. This is not an isolated decision – other countries, m.in. Finland and Lithuania, are considering similar steps, adapting their defence policy to the current realities of the threat.
