To the 82. Oleśnica Battalion for the Evacuation of Equipment of the 10. Opole Logistics Brigade, new low-loader sets were delivered. They will join the currently used m.in Yak transport sets.
The low-loader sets delivered to the unit consist of a Volvo FH16 tractor unit and a semi-trailer from DOLL Fahrzeugbau GmbH. They are provided by the U.S. side as part of the Excess Defense Articles program. Thus, it will allow to increase the capabilities of the Oleśnica transporters in terms of moving the heaviest military equipment, such m.in. main battle tanks, self-propelled howitzers or containers.
They will join the dozens of transport sets used by the unit, such as the Yak (Jelcz 882.62 + ST775-20W semi-trailer from Demarko) or those consisting of an Iveco Trakker tractor unit and an NS600 semi-trailer. The soldiers also have at their disposal a heavy wheeled evacuation and technical rescue vehicle Hardun.
Before starting the implementation of the tasks entrusted to them on the new vehicles, the soldiers underwent the necessary specialist training conducted by Volvo Trucks Polska, the Volvo Trucks Polska Driving Improvement School, the NIJWA Sp. z o.o. service and DOLL mechanics. Interestingly, mechanics from the 55th Repair Battalion and the 10. Regional Technical Workshops from Oleśnica. This allowed them to acquire new knowledge and skills necessary to perform tasks in the field of maintenance and repair of these vehicles. Thus, they will be able to take care of the equipment received on their own without the need to involve external help.
As part of the training, in addition to familiarizing the soldiers with the equipment of the Volvo FH16 tractor, exercises were also carried out on the preparation of a transport set for transporting tanks. They were two units obtained not so long ago from the USA M1A1FEP which were delivered from the 1.
Warsaw Armoured Brigade on Yak armoured transport sets. The training process of loading over 60 tons of vehicles with instruction was to take about 10 minutes, which shows the experience of Oleśnica soldiers in the implementation of their tasks.
Due to the width of the Abrams, it was necessary to use additional overlays for DOLL semi-trailers. After removing them, the low-loader can move freely on public roads without the need for appropriate permits.

The aforementioned Abrams was not the only vehicle that was transported by the new transport set during the exercises. Its capabilities have also been tested with the use of the Jelcz 882.62 truck tractor. The entire training process lasted a week, after which the soldiers, led by the commander Lieutenant Colonel Marek Siebert, received the appropriate certificates allowing them to operate the new low-loader sets. Soon, the soldiers will take part in another training process, this time concerning the process of loading technical recovery vehicles. In the Polish Army, examples of such designs are the WZT-2/3, Bergepanzer 2 or M88A2 Hercules.

Moving on to the specifications of the new low-loader combinations, the Volvo FH16 tractor units are powered by an engine with a displacement of 16,120 cm³ and a power of 449 kW at 1700 rpm. The cabin has seating for a total of 4 people (including the driver). The semi-trailer itself is characterized by wheels with a diameter of 17.5 inches. The maximum gross vehicle weight is 120,000 kg. A representative of Volvo Polska was responsible for the delivery of the aforementioned sets. We would like to thank Lieutenant Dominika Góralska-Chmielarz, the Press Officer of the 10. Opole Logistics Brigade.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the 82. The Oleśnica Equipment Evacuation Battalion is one of the key units of the Polish Army in terms of the transport of heavy military equipment. It has extensive experience and potential in this matter, helping to move vehicles, e.g. for the needs of the parade on the occasion of the Polish Army Day on August 15. In terms of its fleet and qualified personnel, it can compete with many civilian companies, often surpassing them. The Oleśnica soldiers gained experience during operations both in Polish and abroad. The delivery of the new transport sets will thus facilitate their daily service.
