Devastating Consequences of Ukrainian Cyberattack on Center for Space Hydrometeorology Felt by russians Even in Arctic
Planeta Far-Eastern Center of State Research Center for Space Hydrometeorology is russian state enterprise that receives and processes data from satellites as well as provides more than 50 state-owned entities, including the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the russian federation, with relevant products.
As the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported, the attack against Planeta Far-Eastern Research Center for Space Hydrometeorology, which is considered to be the largest of three branches, had been carried out by hackers from BO Team group.

The following consequences are currently known:
-280 servers involved in common network were destroyed;
-Amount of destroyed information was about 2 petabytes (200 million gigabytes) of data;
-Value of digital array lost by russia might reach at least $10 million.
Meteorological and satellite data was destroyed. This data was actively used by russian Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities as well as a number of other agencies of the aggressor state. Unique researches that had been developed over years were also destroyed.
It is known that work of supercomputers equipped at the center was paralyzed and could not be fully restored.
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reported that one such computing device along with software had costed 350 thousand dollars. It is virtually impossible to obtain such software again under such severe sanctions against russia.
Along with data storages, servers and computers, the cyberattack also paralyzed air conditioning and humidification as well as emergency power supply systems of the center’s building.
It is also known that as a result of a cyberattack, russian station on Bolshevik Island in the Arctic, which performs important tasks in military field of the aggressor state, was completely cut off from the network.
“In general, dozens of strategic companies of the russian federation that work for the defense industry and play a key role in supporting russian occupation forces will stay without critical information and services for a long time,” statement reads.
Earlier War Ukraine-Russia News Hub reported that Ukrainian hackers had stolen documentation for 500 russian MoD objects such as arsenals of weapons, headquarters, missile systems.
