Kuwait can transfer 100 M-84 tanks to Ukraine through Croatia. In the near future, the tanks should arrive at the workshops of the Croatian arms concern Duro Dakovic. There they will undergo major repairs there before moving to Ukraine. This was reported by the Croatian military media tvfront with reference to its own sources.
Observers noted that the option of such a transfer had been considered for quite some time. The issue was raised again when the 86-year-old emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah, died, who did not want to interfere in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The country’s army has no need to use these tanks, as it has 218 units of the American M1A2 Abrams.
The M-84AV tank is a Yugoslav licensed version of the Soviet T-72M tank. Kuwait received 149 such vehicles from Yugoslavia. During “Desert Storm” they were not used at all, lest the American military confuse them with Iraqi T-72s. In total, Kuwait could provide Ukraine with 75 to 100 machines.
By the way, the other day, 6 M-84 tanks in sand color were spotted during transportation near the Slovenian city of Ljubljana.
In addition, tvfront suggests that Croatian M-84s may also enter Ukraine. In Croatia, they can be replaced by Swiss Pz tanks. 87 (Swiss version of the Leopard 2 tank). Some other countries of the former Yugoslavia also have M-84 tanks – in addition to 75 vehicles in Croatia itself, 14 tanks were in Slovenia, and an unspecified number of tanks may also be in North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The portal notes that despite the breakup of Yugoslavia quite a long time ago, the ties between the companies remained, as did the stock of spare parts for these tanks.
Earlier, “Ukraine-Russia News Hub” reported that the German defense company Rheinmetall will build a new factory for the production of ammunition in order to supply shells to Ukraine without interruption.
