Ukrainian Military Tells About Advantages of Oncilla APC
The 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine released a video where a warrior of the 5th Battalion called Lubart, driver of Oncilla armored personnel carrier with the call sign Olyukh told how this vehicle helps the military in battles against russian occupation forces.
“This vehicle saved my comrade’s life when we were driving to the unloading point, we were hit by a 120-mm mortar and one fragment hit the windshield at the level of our faces. The vehicle saved my fellow soldier. If we were not driving an armored vehicle, it would have ended badly,” the warrior says about Oncilla.
Ukrainian serviceman notes the high cross-country ability of this armored vehicle, and that weather conditions are not too important for the operation of this equipment. “When it rains not intensely, when it does not rain for a couple of days, it goes perfectly. To do this, you just need to deflate the tires. It has several modes for passing through soils, sands, and so on,” the military told.
He emphasizes that Oncilla performs well on sand. He also recalls a situation when wet soil stuck to the wheels during the rain, and it was impossible to drive away. But he notes that “the vehicle performs very well in bad weather conditions.”
At the same time, the gunman is as safe as the driver: “He does not need to get out of the vehicle, we are driving and he can continue the fight on the move.”
“I used to drive Kirpi [Turkish armored vehicle], Humvee, and now I have switched to this vehicle. Humvee is a quad bike while Oncilla is made with bevels so different pieces of debris can bounce off from it. I drove Kirpi, which is an armored vehicle that weighs 18 tons. I cannot say that it is better than Oncilla in terms of off-road. But there are a lot of drones in our direction, and the bigger the vehicle, the easier it can be seen. This one is small, inconspicuous, and if you try to hide, nothing will get into it,” Olyukh added.
Earlier War Ukraine-Russia News Hub reported that Novator-2 APC by Ukrainian Armor had been tested with EW system by Kvertus.
