South Korea Reveals the Hyunmoo-5 Ballistic Missile, the Most Powerful Nuclear Ballistic Missile in the World
South Korea recently showcased its most powerful ballistic missile, the Hyunmoo-5, during the 76th anniversary of the nation’s armed forces. The Hyunmoo-5 missile, touted as one of the most formidable conventional ballistic missiles globally, is a key component of South Korea’s advanced missile arsenal. Designed to target heavily fortified and underground facilities, it can carry a 9-ton warhead, making it one of the most potent non-nuclear missiles in existence, Army Recognition reports.
The Hyunmoo-5’s development stems from South Korea’s need to counter regional threats, particularly from North Korea’s expanding missile and nuclear capabilities. Entering service in 2023, this missile exemplifies South Korea’s commitment to maintaining a robust deterrent, supported by its three-axis defense strategy. This strategy includes Kill Chain (preemptive strike), Korean Air and Missile Defense (KAMD), and Korea Massive Punishment and Retaliation (KMPR).
With a range of 3,000 kilometers, the Hyunmoo-5 missile is equipped with advanced guidance systems, ensuring precise strikes on strategic targets. Its ability to neutralize heavily protected command centers and military infrastructure makes it a vital asset in maintaining regional stability and South Korea’s security.
