The record losses in the Russian army in November 2023 were caused by the offensive on Avdiivka. The figures from the Ukrainian General Staff are close to those of British intelligence, according to the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.
As reported in the summary, throughout November 2023, Russian casualties, as reported by the Ukrainian General Staff, are running at a daily average of 931 per day.
Previously, the deadliest reported month for Russia was March 2023 with an average of 776 losses per day, at the height of Russia’s assault on Bakhmut, according to RBC Ukraine.
“Although Defence Intelligence cannot verify the methodology, taken as a total including both killed and wounded, the figures are plausible,” the statement reads.
The last six weeks have likely seen some of the highest Russian casualty rates of the war so far. “The heavy losses have largely been caused by Russia’s offensive against the Donbas town of Avdiivka,” wrote the British Ministry of Defense.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia’s losses in the war against Ukraine in the last 24 hours amounted to 750 personnel, with the total number of losses since the invasion reaching 325,580 personnel, as of November 27.
The Guardian, citing Western officials, reported that Russia’s losses in the war against Ukraine range from 300,000 to 400,000 killed and wounded, with them losing from 500 to 1,000 personnel per day in the fiercest battles near Avdiivk.
The U.S. President Joe Biden said that Russia lost over 100,000 of its military personnel in the battles for Bakhmut.
