Signatures Collected in European Parliament to Strip Hungary of Voting Rights
The Finnish representative in the European Parliament, Petri Sarvamaa, successfully obtained 120 signatures from MEPs in support of his petition aimed at depriving Hungary of the right to vote in the Council of the European Union. The MP himself announced this on January 12 through the X social network.
“We are one step closer to depriving Orbán of his right to vote… Next, it would be extremely important to assess the final general support for the idea of the petition at the plenary session as soon as possible,” he noted.
Sarvamaa expressed hope that his initiative would be considered at the plenary session, and also emphasized that it would lead to depriving Hungary of the right to vote in the European Parliament.
The MEP believes that his proposals can be included in the European Parliament’s resolution on Hungary, which will be voted on next week.
It should be noted that the petition arose in connection with a series of ultimatums from Hungary regarding the allocation of 50 billion euros for Ukraine. Orban initially vetoed this decision. And now Hungary offers to provide Ukraine with 12.5 billion euros annually in the form of grants and loans, but only under the condition of an annual review of funding. That is, he wants to blackmail Europe with the same issue every year.
