They Propose to Mine and Concrete Border with russia In Estonia
NATO countries bordering russia are increasingly calling for effective and practical steps to strengthen their defense capabilities.
n particular, in Estonia, the deputy chairman of the defense committee of the parliament, Leo Kunnas, suggests considering the possibility of mining the border with the russian federation, not only with anti-tank, but also with anti-personnel mines; as well as creating a full-fledged multi-echelon defense with concrete protective structures, anti-tank dragon teeth, ditches, etc.

For this, Estonia will have to withdraw from the Ottawa Treaty (Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention), but this is not a very significant price, especially in the conditions when none of the conventions are of any importance to the russian federation. By the way, russia did not join this Treaty at all.
At the same time, the creation of a full-fledged defense line is really important for Estonia. The territory of this country does not allow long-term maneuver defense at all, because the entire operational depth is 240-280 km (excluding islands).
At the same time, the length of the border with the russian federation is 334 km, of which only 90 km is land, and another 88 and 148 km pass along rivers and lakes, of which 126 km are through the Lake Peipsi-Pihkva.
So the intention to create a line of fortification along the border may well be implemented, especially with the support of numerous water obstacles, is more than realistic. At the same time, it will require considerable effort.
The implementation of such a plan requires the participation of neighboring Latvia, which has a much longer land border (206 km out of 266 km of the total length of the border). Otherwise, the russian troops may bypass the Estonian defense line through the territory of Latvia.
In their turn, Lithuania and Poland should already follow the example of Estonia and Latvia, which will mean the creation of a continuous line of defense along the border of these countries with the russian federation and belarus with a length of about 1,200 km. And although these plans may seem unrealistic now, they are quite logical from the point of view of creating an effective defense against the enemy.
