These were the first strikes on the Leningrad region since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to ISW, a russian insider source claimed on January 21 that russian air defense coverage over Leningrad Oblast is poor, indicating that russian air defenses in Leningrad Oblast are likely not positioned to defend against strikes from the south.
