Businessman Mazepa detained by SBU while crossing the border
On January 18, the State Bureau of Investigation detained Ihor Mazepa, a Ukrainian businessman and the founder of the investment company Concorde Capital, while crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border.
The publication NV, citing its own sources, notes that the SBI is conducting searches at Concorde Capital’s office. And the case is related to obtaining the right to land for the construction of a premium cottage town Goodlife Park in the Vyshgorod district of the Kyiv region.
KM Goodlife Park was built in 2013, has an area of 40 hectares, a yacht club, a mini-hotel, a restaurant, a children’s park, sports grounds and a fitness center.
Mazepa’s lawyers said he was on his way to the World Economic Forum in Davos. They reported this in a comment to the EP publication.
Lawyers for the founder of Concorde Capital emphasized that he repeatedly crossed the border in matters related to volunteering and investment activities and returned each time.
“He informed investigators and law enforcement agencies about his departure, as he was supposed to visit the World Economic Forum in Davos. And this became the reason for his detention without a court order,” the comment reads.
Lawyers associate Mazepa’s detention with the businessman’s position regarding the pressure of security forces on business.
Also, the State Bureau of Investigation announced that the son of Lviv businessman Ihor Hrynkevich, Roman Hrynkevich, was wanted. He was charged with fraud. This was reported by the press service of the SBI on Thursday, January 18.
The day before, suspicions were announced against Hrynkevich, his son Roman and three other heads of companies controlled by them.
“Yesterday, a number of urgent searches were conducted to find and detain members of a criminal group, including a relative of a Lviv businessman. Unfortunately, he has not yet been found, but the suspicion of fraud and participation in a criminal group has been announced to him in accordance with the procedure established by law,” said DBR adviser Tetyana Sapyan.
According to her, the businessman’s son has been declared wanted.
“If you know about his whereabouts, inform the law enforcement authorities. He did not officially cross the border,” she added.
We will remind, at the end of December 2023, the SBI detained one of the largest suppliers of the Ministry of Defense – Lviv businessman Ihor Hrynkevich. He offered 500,000 dollars to one of the heads of the Main Investigative Department of the SBI. For this, the entrepreneur wanted “assistance” in the return of property seized from companies under his control during the investigation of criminal proceedings.
The SBI instituted several criminal proceedings on the fact of irregularities in the procurement of clothing and underwear for the Armed Forces. The companies of the Lviv businessman won 23 tenders for supplying the Ministry of Defense with clothing for 1.5 billion hryvnias.
The Ministry of Defense terminated the contracts concluded with Hrynkevich. The property of the businessman’s family and controlled companies has been seized. Among the seized property are 17 residential real estate objects, 7 non-residential real estate objects, 18 land plots, 9 premium class cars, shares in the authorized capital of UAH 14.73 million; 12 weapons; 3 objects of intellectual property.
