The US Senate passed legislation for the seizure of Russian assets
Today, January 24, the US Senate committee approved a law that will help Washington to confiscate Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine. This is reported by Reuters.
The Senate Committee on International Relations supported “the law on restoration of economic prosperity and opportunities for Ukrainians.”
The law could pave the way for the first-ever seizure of assets by the Central Bank of a country with which it is not at war. However, for this, it needs to be approved by the Senate, the House of Representatives and US President Joseph Biden.
Senator Ben Cardin, chairman of the Democratic Party Committee on International Relations, is convinced that the bill will become law. According to him, the document enjoys broad support from both Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as from Joe Biden’s administration.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee passed a similar bill, which also received overwhelming bipartisan support.
We will remind you that the European Union has started technical work on the implementation of proposals regarding the use of frozen Russian assets in the interests of Ukraine. But here they tend to take the interest that the seized Russian assets give and give them to the needs of Ukraine. But they do not want to touch the assets themselves for a number of reasons…
Earlier, the mass media reported that the USA had started urgent negotiations on the assets of the Russian Federation. Joe Biden’s administration is pressing Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan to prepare a strategy for using the frozen money before the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
