At the special EU peak regarding Ukraine and European defense, projects will be adopted regarding the strengthening of the Polish Eastern border – Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced.

“The European Union on March 6 will accept very specific multi -billion projects for its own reinforcements, to defend the Polish border with Russia, to help Ukraine,” said Tusk on Thursday on TVN24.

According to the premiere, one of the topics will also be financing support for Ukraine from frozen Russian assets.

In December last year, the European Commission announced the transfer of additional funds to the Member States bordering Russia and Belarus to the protection of borders in the amount of EUR 170 million. EUR 52 million of this amount was granted to Poland.

Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania will also receive support. Co -financing is intended to modernize electronic supervision systems, improve communication, and investments in anti -done devices. According to the position of 2021, the EU does not finance barbed wire dams or walls.

In May 2024, Tusk announced the implementation of the East shield project. It assumes the construction of a network of fortifications, while maintaining valuable trainings and using their defensive qualities, at a length of nearly 800 km along the eastern border.

By 2028, the government planned for materials needed to build an East shield expenses in the amount of at least PLN 10 billion. In addition to the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Interior and Administration participates in the work, the Ministry of State Asset and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

For months, Tusk has urged other EU Member States to support such projects as the East shield, arguing that “European money should build a safe border of the Union.”
